I love purgatory chasm! Climbing around on all of the large boulders and rocks is really fun and not as monotonous as a traditional hike. The parking is easy and it’s great to come here for an hour or two and explore all the nooks and crannies.

This place is great for a day or fun. If you enjoy the outdoors ull enjoy this. There's trails and then the actual rocks. Small children can come but not for the nervous parent. Gets scary when one step could be very bad. Do enjoy!

Absolute favorite day hike. Beginners stick to the loop trail!! The main chasm trial is difficult but fun! Bring your sure footing. First time, I would recommend taking the left side of the loop trail to the junction with little purgatory trail, then head up the chasm rather than down it. This way you can walk along the chasm ridge for a birds-eye view of the chasm along with amazing scenic views. I completed the half loop and chasm trails in under 2 hrs with my nuclear powered 4- year- old daughter. Not sure if that last bit helps but ya this place is awesome!! CARRY IN CARRY OUT! DON'T BE A SAVAGE!

This place has something for everyone, as long as you are an outdoorsy type of person. There are good sized trails, both easy and moderate. If you or your kids like climbing on, over, and under rocks, they will LOVE this place. We've been here many times over the years and still find it fun. A word of warning though: the rocks/cliffs can be very high and sometimes slippery (especially when wet or covered in leaves). Wear good sneakers/boots with good grip and watch your step. There are no safety nets or railings, and plenty of spots to fall from, so be very careful! Finally, if you are afraid of heights, and your kid is not, you are in for a bad time.

I've been coming here since I was a child. I think I have discovered every cave in the place. Great place for kids and family.
